Not kidding, it happened... How sad...

It may sound as a joke but it is not.
The event that I am about to describe happened on March 11, 2004 and it was broadcasted in many TV News in Brazil.

“Ailton, 28 years old, was married to Sonia, who was 4 months pregnant. Unemployed for two months and having to provide food for his family, Ailton decided to go fishing at the River Piratuaba - Sao Paulo - located 3 miles away from his home. He managed to fish some 1 kg of Lambari. However, Ailton, not knowing that fishing at that river was prohibited, got arrested for two days. A friend paid R$280.00 in order to set him free and he would have to pay a tow of R$724.00 to IBAMA (Environmental Institute of Brazil). Sonia, his wife, not knowing about her husband’s fate, got sick and was taken to the hospital where she ended up losing their baby.
As soon as Ailton left precinct, he received the news about the death of his child in exchange for some freaking fishes, which would be putrefying in some trash-can. Can anyone return Ailton and Sonia’s baby???
On the other hand, we have Henri Philippe Reichstul, a foreigner, president of PETROBRAS (the biggest oil company in Brazil), responsible for spilling 1 million and three hundred thousands litters of oil at the famous Guanabara Bay (the same where one can see the Christ and the Sugar Loaf, two of the most famous sightseeing places of Brazil located at Rio de Janeiro). The expansion of the oil at the water resulted on the death of thousands of fishes and sea birds. Henri was also responsible for the spilling of some 4 million litters of oil at the Iguacu River, destroying the “Fauna & Flora” as well as compromising the water supply to many cities in the region. Henri is free and can be spotted having dinner at the best restaurants of Rio and Brasilia”.
I find this to be shameful. I feel embarrassed to be Brazilian at those times. This is the kind of fact that fires me up and make me be someone who wants to change whatever is on my reach. I cannot just close my eyes for the difference and let it go…

My first ride, eeeeeewwwwww

Tonight I took my bike for a ride... It was not pretty, I have to say. I am so out of shape. I am not sure how many miles I completed but I guess it would be around 3 miles... I went around the lake and came home. The worst part was the pain I felt in my feet and on my butt. I was not really tired and I actually made up to some small and short hills.
As soon as I got home I got some tools and lowered the seat since it was too high for me. I have heard that "bike fitting" was very important and I could experience in person and in practice. With the seat a lil lower I am expecting too decrease the butt and feet pain, hopefully...
The training today was very good cause it made me realize one important thing: I will need a lot of time "me and my bike", just getting acquainted and used to it. My sweet and wonderful cyclebuddy, Donn Mcknight used to say that better than long trining rides was the familiarity with your bike... Oh well, hopefully I will have enough "quality time" with my baby bike...
hehehe
