Rent

I think Rent - the film, was a very loyal and efficient adaptation of a big play to the movies. For me, as a musical it doesn't work as good as Moulin Rouge or Chicago, but most of the songs are great and some of the fast pieces get you pumped up.Excellent interpretations by the whole cast which is actually mostly composed by the original cast of the play, maybe that is why they seemed so comfortable in their roles. I love the fact that the hero on this film is Angel, the drag queen. I am not sure if it takes a gay person to fall in love for this character. I remember back 6 years ago, when I saw this play in NY and when I "was not gay yet", I thought that character was a little obnoxious. But then it could have been the interpretation of Wilson Cruz, who I am not a big fan of, or maybe I was just not ready for that yet. I would really like to know how it is the repercussion of this film on the middle west and southern states, actually it would be interesting to know how it has been the repercussion of this film everywhere. It is wothy checkint it out. I give it a B.
