War of the Worlds

Last night after moving some of my stuff to the new house, Randy and I joined Adam and Frank on the movies for “War of Worlds”. Steven Spielberg used to be my favorite director and now I wonder why.
There was a time I would be looking forward to seeing SS’s films after watching its trailer or preview. That does not happen anymore.
I wonder if it is because I grew up and now I have a more developed criticism against foolish screenplays, but then, what happened to the creator of “Jaws”, “E.T”, “The Color Purple” and “Schindler’s List”? In my mind, those are all time favorites…
Recently he directed A.I., Minority Report and War o The Worlds as mediocre as they could be.
I have to admit I was enjoying War of the Worlds in the beginning. I liked the effects and the lighting. The development of things was going very well and Tom Cruise wasn’t that bad either. Some of the sequences were intense and made me excited but some others made me want to laugh and I am not sure I was supposed to. As the film would not develop to a closing, I started fearing for an absurd explanation.
For my sake there was no absurd explanation in the end, actually there was no explanation AT ALL, WHATSOEVER. The film ended like a road ends in an abyss- Non-sense. I left disappointed. It is okay, Spielberg is still to come with his biggest hit. I just need to be patient. Meanwhile, I can look forward to Robert Rodriguez’s, Tarantino’s, Ridley Scott’s, Oliver Stone’s and Walter Salles’. Those are more likely to make me satisfied.
