The Motorcycle Diaries

Yesterday I met my friend Ismail ( wwww.somah.com ) and his partner, HBB, for an afternoon at the movies. The film: The Motorcycle Diaries. I was looking forward to seeing it ever since I read about its production. I did not leave the Theater disappointed. The Brazilian Director Walter Sales, who I admire greatly was one of the reasons for my interest. The other was the scenario the film was shot - a pure, untouched South America with what nature has in its best. The Chilean Andes, the Atacama Desert, the Peruvian Ruins of the Inca Empire and the Amazon River. So beautiful! I could see many patterns from the Director of "Central Station" in this film such as using non-actors, little or no make-up in order to make the characters closer to human beings rather than "Barbie and Ken" dolls, revealing a natural beauty. Moreover, the naturality of the shots and the acting together bring fiction very close to documentary. It definetly blew me away. After watching this film, I felt compelled to study more about Che Guevara, who I knew mostly for his picture in shirts and some random comments. In a scale from A to F, I would be giving it a B+ or A-. It is a different language, that is for sure. Something we are not used to seeing in the movies very often.
