A.D.D. – My cousins had and nobody knew!!!

The first time I ever heard of Attention Deficit Disorder was when my friend Adam, trying to find an excuse for his hard time focusing on the volleyball courts, came up with the idea he had it, therefore he would go through a series of brain exams. Later on, the exams showed NOTHING…
After that episode, I started hearing those three letters more and more, A D D, A D D, A D D. It seems almost like a fashion statement. Some many kids have Attention Deficit Disorder nowadays. It is not even funny…
I am not trying to say that there is no such a thing as A.D.D., I just find to be very odd the number of cases around in such a short period of time. It seems to me that parents do not want to take the responsibility for their poor education methods, “blaming” their kids and their “condition” instead. The fastest solution is always the best, huh? Put them on medication! Oh my God! That is so scary!
My twin cousins were the most terrible kids I have ever met. When they got to our house, they would drive everybody crazy. They were so hyper, always running and climbing, fighting, totally unaware of any kind of rules. I don’t remember people giving them drugs in order to calm them down. They grew up to be very successful, intelligent and confident engineers, married with great and beautiful women, and now having kids of their own.
Really, what is the problem with kids who are hyperactive? In my mind, those kids are the most healthy and creative ones.
I am no neurologist to say what is right and wrong, but in my mind kids who are at early age being tamed by medications will be more likely to develop conditions later, such as hypochondria and lack of self esteem.
